Settlement Formation

NCECN

For self-sustaining eco-living ...
in anticipation of all-out war in the Middle East and a global economic meltdown!

Welcome to the Eco-Living Network Settlement Formation Page (4)

Chief Aim

In anticipation of impending war in the Middle East, and an inevitable global economic meltdown and its ramifications, the core objective of this network is life preservation through the advancement of, among other things, sustainable self-sufficiency; social security; eco-friendly, healthy living within a dynamic, open-minded and supportive community, and in pristine wilderness surroundings.

Appeal

It is to this end that the following disciplines have been identified as crucial to this venture, and that we wish to extend an open invitation to all trustworthy people dedicated to ecological, social and economic self-sufficiency, to commit their skills, insights, energy and capital to facilitate this unique and momentous undertaking.

Core Design Principles

Cooperative Community Building

Cooperative Network Charter: Still a lot to be elaborated on before its official implementation.

Cooperative Network Participation: To enable men and women of all countries to live in peace and progressive harmony above all prejudices, all politics and all nationalities at a place indicated by Scripture as a safe haven during the anticipated war in the Middle East and the ensuing global economic meltdown, it is imperative that the prerequisites and protocols for becoming a participant of this cooperative network be clearly defined.

Cooperative Network Ethics:  Should define ethical models and value systems that corroborate acceptable social, economic and environmental action; promote economic efficiency, freedom, equality and justice; and enhance creativity, spirituality, personal unfolding and leadership capabilities.

Cooperative Network Organisational Structures: Organisational systems and leadership structures which give maximum autonomy to all participants are recommended.

Modes of Accommodation:

Three modes of accommodation are proposed for temporary wilderness living:

Tents

Caravans

Semi-permanent housing

Construction Options:

Two options for construction of semi-permanent housing are envisioned, presenting members with the opportunity to work within a fairly loose set of guidelines to come up with their own home designs.

Owner-build where a member builds or manages the building of their own semi-permanent home.  He or she will have to provide the local governing body with a construction plan to demonstrate that they have the necessary technical knowledge and resources to build such a semi-permanent home.

Community build where a group of members join forces to plan, design and build their own homes, similar to a housing co-operative.  It is likely that a number of standard designs will be agreed and that builders will be contracted, although with an opportunity for members to give their own labour too.

Building Materials:

Sustainable and innovative approach for analysing and selecting natural building materials for a wide range of semi-permanent housebuilding options is essential.

Adobe (sun-dried) bricks

Traditional cob (a mixture of earth and straw)

Rammed earth

Timber-frame

Straw-bale

Sandbags

River reeds
