HERBAL
MEDICINE (Not Herbalife)
All
the herbal medicines and remedies are formulated according to standardised
Naturopathic principles to achieve the highest possible quality. With the
assistance of a member of the South African Pharmacy Council, these medicines
are formulated based on The Scientific Validation of Herbal Medicine, published in 1986 and Pharmacognosy,
Phytochemistry, Medicine Plants, published in 1995. These
herbal remedies/medicines contain no fillers, colourants or preservatives.
All the medicines have subsequently been registered with the above mentioned
body, each with a related N.A.P.P.I. code. The introduction of any new herbal
medicines will automatically follow the same interrogation and registration
process. These medicines are cheaper than conventional prescribed medicine and
offer a more natural way of treating all ailments.
Treatments
are holistic and each treatment is individually prescribed, via appointment, by
the Naturopath.
HOLISTIC
HEALING
An
approach to healing and wellness that views the human being as more than just a
physical body with a disease. Holistic Therapists consider the body, mind,
emotions and spirit. Holistic Healing is the process of balancing each of these
aspects to create a state of wellness. Holistic Therapy applies preventative and
balancing techniques to prevent illness and disease from occurring.
SPIRITUAL
HEALING
This
involves the transference of energy from the healer to the patient, through the
hands of the healer and works with the life force energy in a similar way to
Reiki. Using prayer, meditation or channelling, divine healing energies are
called on to positively change and uplift the patient. This type of healing is
usually practised done using the techniques of “distance” healing and/or
“laying on of hands” healing.
NATUROPATHY
A
Holistic Healing System that treats illness by stimulating the natural healing
forces of the body. Naturopaths believe that the symptoms of disease are
manifest by the body’s healing forces to eliminate toxins in order to get the
body back into balance. Treatment relies on the healing power of nature,
acknowledging the body’s innate capacity to heal. Naturopaths commit
themselves to the principle of “do no harm”, only using safe and effective
natural therapies to treat the cause of illness rather than the effect.
Naturopath treatments are holistic and each treatment is individually
prescribed. Patients are educated, empowered and motivated to assume personal
responsibility for their health by adopting a healthy attitude, lifestyle and
diet.
This
is the most ancient form of health care known to mankind. Herbs are used for
cleansing, elimination and detoxification to stimulate the body’s self-healing
capabilities and to counteract physical symptoms. Mixtures of specific herbs can
be made into a “tonic” to develop the body’s immunity and resistance to
disease. The human body easily assimilates nutrients, vitamins, minerals,
antibiotic and hormonal substances from plants to obtain both food and medicine.
With the skilful selection of herbs, a deep transformation in health can be
achieved without damaging side effects, which are so often experienced with
pharmaceutical medicine. A trained herbalist should always be consulted, as some
herbal remedies are potent and need to be used carefully.
IRIDOLOGY
The
diagnostic principles of Iridology sate that different parts of the iris relate
to different parts of the body. While every iris is individual, the position,
shape, size and colour of the different markings indicate the state of health of
the various organs and bodily systems. The iris is divided into sections linked
to parts or functions of the body and into six rings or zones linked to the body
systems. Iridologists categorise 10 different types of constitutions by the
basic fibre patterns comprising the iris. An Iridologist will sometimes take a
photo of individual iris patterns to keep a permanent record of the patient.
After examination, the significance of the various markings is explained to the
patient and a course of treatment is suggested.
TRADITIONAL
AFRICAN HEALING
There
are varying categories of traditional healers in South Africa, including
“Inyangas” who practise herbalism and Sangomas who are trained to
communicate with the Spirit World through their ancestors, traditional midwives
and surgeons. Modern traditional healers use African, Western and Chinese herbs
in combination with diet, exercise, hydrotherapy, counselling, vitamin/mineral
supplementation, first aid and “piercing” (African acupuncture). Many
traditional healers are established healthcare workers and will soon be eligible
for formal recognition by the Health Professions Council.
REGRESSION
AND PAST LIFE REGRESSION
Regression
therapy involves placing a client into a relaxed alpha state and then taking
them back to a specific stage in their life. The process is not used to relieve
trauma but rather to access the negative life decisions that are made as a
result of the trauma. Once located these negative patterns can be removed and
replaced with positive decisions.
Past
Life Regression uses a similar technique, but works with the belief that we have
lived many lives and that a past life may affect present behaviour in a negative
way.
REIKI
A
form of healing in which the healer transmits healing energy, which is a
combination of Cosmic and Life Energy, through the hands to the patient.
“Rei” means Cosmic Energy and “ki” (or “chi”) means the Life Energy
that flows through all living things. There are various styles of Reiki and the
styles used by this healer are Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki and Karuna Reiki ®. These
two styles include Chakra Balancing and Distant Healing.
Usui Shiki
Ryoho Reiki – Originated
in the Tibetan Monasteries as a method of self healing on mental, emotional,
physical and spiritual planes. It is a bio-energy process which draws energy
into the Healer’s body and then the Healer transfers this energy into another
person. Once the Healer has had a Reiki initiation, usually from a Reiki Master,
the energy transfer happens automatically when the Healer’s hands are placed
onto a patient.
Chakra
Balancing
The
Chakras (seven of them) are centres of energy or force situated in the etheric
body along the spine. These are the points for receiving and transmitting
energies. The Healer can use crystals and/or gemstones to balance these
energies/charkas or can balance them for the patient through the use of the
hands and the application of Reiki techniques.
Distant
or Absent Healing
The
process of distant healing is to visualise sending “Healing Energy’ to a
distant or absent patient who has requested the healing. The process of
visualisation is obtained in the meditative state. Visualise also means
imagination. The process involves visualising or creating a representation of
the patient in the healer’s mind, when the patient who has requested the
healing is physically not with the healer, but is absent. Visualisation
techniques include the use of any of the senses which include sight, sound,
touch and fragrance. Other visualisation techniques also include sending energy,
love, colour, praying, thinking of the patient, lighting a candle and using a
photograph. This practice takes place in a quiet undisturbed place under
meditation which is the other half of the distant healing process. Meditation
for distant healing involves the creation of a light state of concentration and
not a deep trance.
CRYSTAL THERAPY
A
very ancient form of healing that uses crystals to direct vibrational energy to
the human electro-magnetic field or aura. Having the ability to concentrate or
direct an electrical charge, they are used to carry bio-energetic energy from
the healer to the patient. The healer becomes the channel for this energy.
Crystal energy fields have their own form of healing energy or energy imprint
and may also be carried or worn as jewellery to create a protective healing
field. This vibrational energy is channelled by the healer to provide the
patient with treatments such as Crystal Reflexology, Crystal Massage and Chakra
Balancing.
CHEIROLOGY
Constitutes
a healing and therapeutic method that combines traditional western palmistry and
ancient Buddhist hand
analysis.
Hands are seen as a “computer printout” of a person’s character, with
specific markings and characteristics
showing
significant events, struggles and challenges experienced by the patient.
Cheirologists use principles from the five
elements
of life which are earth, water, fire, ether and wood for interpretation. Unlike
Palmistry, fortune telling is not part of
Cheirology.
Cheirologists are equipped with counselling skills and their training includes
ethical guidance.
HEALING
WITH ART
Exploring,
discussing and sharing the creation of a paintings or drawings are used to form
the basis of a therapeutic relationship between healer and patient. Colour has
been used since ancient times to produce certain psychological and emotional
effects and for healing and balancing the body. Healing with art helps in
developing deep self awareness and changing or accepting aspects of the self.
NUTRITIONIST
A
certified nutritionist can advise clients on diet and lifestyle issues. The
practitioner is an experienced Ayurvedic Cook who has presented Ayurvedic
Cooking Classes at the Ayurvedic Centre in Honeydew.
AYURVEDA
Known
as the “Science of Life”, Ayurveda is an ancient Indian form of healing and
medicine. Diagnosis or analysis is based on the concept that everything in the
universe consists of three basic forces called “Doshas”. In /Sanskrit they
are known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Health is believed to result from the three
forces being in harmony. The Ayurvedaist’s task is to discover the patient’s
innate disposition and alleviate imbalances in the ‘Doshas’ causing stress.
This is done using remedies and techniques from conventional surgery to message,
dietary changes, exercise, meditation, sweat baths, enemas, fragrant oils and
sound.
REFLEXOLOGY
This
is a method of stimulating the body’s healing mechanisms by massaging certain
reflex points on the foot. It is based on ancient Chinese and Indian diagnostic
and therapeutic techniques that concluded that different parts of the sole
connect to the rest of the body via energy flow along meridians or pathways.
Stimulating the reflex points helps to treat conditions in parts of the body
related to those areas. The reflex massage prompts the body to message itself,
by restoring the flow of healing energy to the affected part of the body.
AROMATHERAPY
Combines
the use of gentle, rhythmic massage with the therapeutic effects of essential
oils. These oils are administered through message, compresses, inhalation, in
burners or in a bath. An essential oil is a non oily natural extract from an
aromatic plant and the chemical make up of these oils gives them a number of
desirable pharmacological properties such as antibacterial, diuretics,
vasodilators and vasoconstrictors. The oils are also effective for treating
infection, interacting with the various branches of the nervous system,
modifying immune response and harmonising moods and emotions.
SWEDISH
MASSAGE
This
is the manipulation of soft tissue for therapeutic purposes. It is traditionally
performed with talcum powder which is applied with a pad of cotton wool over the
area. The talcum powder is used to enable the therapist’s hands to slide over
the client with a deep pressure. The various movements massage either
individually or in combination, affect the skin, muscles, blood vessels,
lymphatics, nerves and some of the internal organs, depending on the position
and pressure of the movements involved. The pressure of the movements results in
the speeding up of the body’s physiology, whilst slow gentle movements have
soothing effects, calming the nerves and enabling the client to relax.
SPORTS
MASSAGE
Sports
massage is the scientific manipulation of soft tissue for injury prevention and
therapeutic purposes, involving the restoration to normal functional activity of
the various structures of the body.
SHIATSU
This
is a Japanese technique of applying finger pressure to key points on the body to
stimulate a healing response. The Shiatsu Therapist may also use his/her hands,
thumbs, elbows, knees, forearms and feet during the treatment. Shiatsu acts on
the subtle anatomy of the body to facilitate the flow of energy, or ‘chi’
through the meridians to the organs, reaching the whole body.
INDIAN
HEAD MASSAGE
Linked to ayurvedic medicine, many different kinds of massage movements are administered with therapeutic oil to the head. Indian massage improves circulation, memory, enhances the five senses, eases mental and emotional stress and promotes clear thinking. It is highly recommended to relieve headaches, migraines, insomnia, tinnitus, vertigo and depression.
