A Tribute to Corky and Sue Vroom
CH. CORY'S MISSILE BELLE was a Doberman that was in the rankings of the All Systems back in the
early 70's!! She was a bitch with approx 38 Best in Shows. This was before the Working Group was split
into two namely the Herding and Working Group.
I got into dogs in l971 when I first laid my eyes on Corky handling at the Beverly Hills Kennel Club in l973.
I was told this dog and great handler were at the show and I was advised to go over and take a look at him
and his Doberman in the breed ring. That is the first time I saw Corky Vroom in action.
A few months later the kennels in the area got together to fight an ordinance change and I met Corky with
an introduction from another kennel owner. There were several meetings and we all had to kick in money
for a lawyer. From there on started a friendship with all of these people including with Corky.
For the last 30 plus years we have lived at least 2 miles from each other and have helped each other out
from time to time. We have had so much fun over those years at the shows. Corky has always liked
my dogs but he was also hard to me when it was something he did not like. He is a great mentor not
only a very good friend. This year, 2005, I picked him and Sue up from the Airport as they just got
back from the Gardens with their dogs. This was the last time that I would have to drive them to and
from the airport for that yearly trip. He is now retired and both him and his wife Sue will be starting
a new venture working for the AKC. They will be relocating to Texas.

I am very sad they will be leaving and moving so far away but in the same sense I am very happy for
both of them on their retirement from Handling dogs. They still will be active in the dog world but
from another venue. Before they left some of our friends and dog people spent a day at
Santa Anita Race Track where one of the races was dedicated in the honour of Corky and Sue Vroom.
It has been an honour for me to have such wonderful friends through the years in and outside
of the dog world. Corky has handled many Artic Luv dogs of all colours but his favourite was
Ch Artic Luvs Skulduggery "Trick” and my new up and coming star Artic-Luvs Electric Warrior.
I will dearly miss both of them. But I will look forward in seeing them, time to time at some shows.
