Harry Haycox, my father, was
born in Wroxeter, UK (The Roman city of Uriconium) in
1904. He and his mother, Lucy (nee Chapman),
emigrated to South Africa in 1921. My
grandfather, John Edward Haycox, perished in Flanders
during WW1 (9October 1917). See the Tyne Cot Memorial
in Passchendaele, Belgium. Further searches for
the Haycox family proved unsuccessful.
For many years we were under the
impression that we were the last with the surname,
but the internet proved differently. I would
like to find the link to the United States of America
where there are several Haycox families. I
would also like to know whether the Haycocks
families, of whom there are many, are related.
Tracing my grandmother's family,
Chapman, back for several generations, to Edward
Chapman the father of Edward Chapman who was baptised
on 12 March 1689, has been fairly rewarding.
They hail from Montgomeryshire in Wales. Some
of the Chatman family (Chapman corrupted) have been
traced to Australia.
See the page on known ancestors or
better still down load the GEDCOM file.
