Sunset at Homestead Dam
I have been a amateur photographer for the last 31 years. But there has been a big gap in between until last year when I discovered http://www.outdoorphoto.co.za. This web space which is owned and run by Hedrus Van der Merwe. I have made friends there and they crit my pics and help me to become a better photographer. I have learnt so much since I have been uploading my pics to the website.
How did I start?
In 1975, one of my school friends was a photographer and taught me how to develop black and white photographs. I used to go down to the local skating rink and take photographs of my friends. I soon got enough money to buy a camera and with the help of my dad I got the PENTAX SP100 with a flash. This set me on the path to becoming a more serious photographer but sadly when I left school I had to pack up everything.
During the years I used to take photographs on and off but not to seriously until last year. I purchased the NIKON 50 with the lens kit. This is a superb entry level camera but I wanted more so I have purchased the D80.
What am I doing now?
I am still a amateur photographer but in a more serious way. I like to photograph birds, and my interests are also into aviation.
What do I have?
In my arsenal I have a NIKON D80 which is a superb camera. Recently released, NIKON has once again released a camera full of goodies. For a review of the camera you can go to for a review of this camera you can click on the link below.
On the side of lenses I have a Nikon 18-200mm VR Lens. The (VR)vibration reduction technology is amazing in that it reduces hand shake and you can take pics in low light without the use of a tripod. Up to 4 stops lower according to Nikon.
Sigma 170-500 MM for birding ect. Due to my budget constraints I decided to get this lens. As I am into birding as well I needed a longer lens so as to get nice and close to the birds. A bit heavy but takes superb pictures.
