DIPLOMACY
CHOOSING ALLIANCE MATES
- A good way of determining which of your neighbours are active is by messaging them.
- Everybody likes to know what is going on in the neighbourhood, so exchanges of intelligence and progress reports is usually quite welcome.
- The best ally is an active ally.
- Make sure all allies agree on a few basic principals, leadership style, game objectives, activity requirements. Also set parameters for planet-swapping, resource swapping, ship-movement and so on. This will prevent arguments down the line.
FOR THE ALLIANCE LEADER
- Make an attempt to establish relationships with leaders of neighbouring alliances.
- Being friendly with a rival leader reduces the chances he will attack you. Mutual Defense agreements are highly recommended.
- Let your neighbours know your plans. If they know that they aren't on the menu (yet) they will be less likely to harbor dangerous intentions regarding you.
- Encourage them to share their plans with you (who are they attacking, who is attacking them).
- This way you will know which alliances are in the area, or whether you are likely to have a new neighbour soon.
- Keep your allies up to date with your plans and the area intelligence. They may have heard something or know something which you missed. Alternately, if one of them has to make a snap decision, it will be an informed one.
SELECTING TARGETS
- An alliance with members of similar species make the best food (good hab).
- There is a vague line between FOOD and BASHING. FOOD are small alliances with no future. Use them to fuel your expansion, but realise that you will earn no points from defeating players that much weaker than you.
- To earn lots of points (kills, salvage, battle-points) you want to take on players with similar rank to your own.
- Avoid attaking much larger players, unless you have support from another alliance. There are no rules against gangbanging, but gangbanging is frowned upon unless the target is significantly larger.
- If you are attacked by a much larger alliance, activate MUTUAL DEFENSE agreements if you have any.
