Shydow Aethercraft:
Requirements: Nanotech level 10, Ore-Mining level 16
- Affects up to 20 ships in the same fleet.
- Affected ships convert 50% enemy hull damage to salvaged ore based on building cost of the targeted ship.
- Affected ships take 10% less damage.
- No salvage is gained for destruction of enemy ships
- Affected ships armed with missiles have ecologically devastating effect upon conquest (hab% greatly lowered)

Starting Out
- Shydow start out by researching ore-mining, which is already at level 4. This is a major bonus to your starting economy.
- Shydow have the second fastest population growth rate, meaning you can add those economic buildings sooner than most and retain 100% efficiency.
- You can afford to go heavy on mining even your early planets, and won't suffer much from ore-depletion.
- Shydow have very far below average habs from greys, but this is irrelevant, as you will probably have the best income.
- As the galaxy progresses, your economic advantage will INCREASE, as other players start suffering from ore-depletion, and have to convert their mines to factories.

Ideal Alliance Partners
- Oomari and Turian: opposite habs, resiliance. Your unique covered fleet takes 10% less damage, a Turian fleet has the deflection bonus and shield resistance, and an Oomari unique covered fleet takes 20% less damage from missile and fighters. The three species together consitutes the toughest fleet combination to take down.
- Gorgoth: opposite hab, market discount, destructive firepower.
- Toag: opposite hab, market discount.
- Kreel: opposite hab, first strike bonus.

Military
- Get the aethercaft as soon as possible.
- The two bonuses are massive. 10% less damage from ALL weapons, and converting enemy hull damage into ore as fast as you can inflict damage.
- In a decent alliance battle, a shydow will earn several ticks worth of ore-income EVERY TICK, and can usually clone more ships than he is losing EVERY TICK.
- With the massively cheap cost of ore technology, combined with a discount to engine costs on your ships, your ships will be very cheap too (engines are the single most expensive component on a starship).
- Don't forget the bonus to researching engine technology as well, Shydow can build pretty decently fast ships as a result.
- A militaristic shydow, who engages in lots of battles, will just build more and more starships the more battles he is in. A shydow can easily challenge a Drall for the position of most valuable fleet (highest tonnage) by game's end.
