STARSHIP SHIELDS

Description
1. Each design slot ascribed to Shields increases the amont of shields on the ship.
2. Heavier ships gain more shields per design slot than smaller ships.
3. The shield power gained per slot may be increased by researching Shield Technology. This is not applied retroactively, you have to design a new ship to gain the benefit.
4. Increase in shield technology improves shield resistance, reducing the damage which penetrates to the hull. This is applied immediately to all ships. You do NOT have to build a new ship to gain the benefit.
5. Heavier ships have a higher base resistance to damage, so less damage penetrates to the hull, but more shield is lost instead.
6. Shields recharge instantly after battle.

Strategies
1. In extended battles, if you manage to retreat ships, their shields will be recharged immediately, and you can return them to the battle. Oomari is best suited to this tactic.
2. Never build a combat ship without shields. Any shields is better than no shields. This is because the more hull damage the ship takes the more it is likely to be targeted.
3. The exception is high evasion and high stealth ships, where hull and shield may be sacrificed in favor of evasion.
