CAPITAL SHIPS

If you have 10-110 capitol ships with at least 75 sensors and 3 weapon slots, they will impart a sensor bonus to ESCORT SHIPS and SHIPS OF THE LINE

BattleShips and Assault Carriers - Sensor bonus to Uniques and Weapon Platforms. Requires 70 sensors and 4 weapon slots, minimum 10 ships.
Weapon Platforms
Species Ships (Uniques)

Uniques
Species specific ships have a wide of range of capbilities which vary from species to species. Not all are combat ships. As such, they are not to be included in the comments below.

Advantages
Capital Ships have exceptionally high firepower and accuracy, massive armour and shields. Individually, they are exceptionally powerful, and tough to destroy. Capital ships also have bonuses to shield resistance, reducing the proportion of hull damage they take in battle. Their shield bonuses offer them the maximum chance of surviving many turns of combat without taking damage, while their massive hulls can withstand severe punishment from minefields. These combat bonuses ensure that capital ships will easily destroy even a significantly more expensive fleet consisting of smaller ships.

Disadvantages
Capital Ships are extremely expensive, and each one takes ages to build, tieing up a planets shipyards for many game-turns. In terms of cost to firepower ratio, they fare relatively poorly, so make a poor choice for planet conquering. They have very poor speed and stealth ratings, making them very easy targets for all weapons.

SENSOR BONUS TO OTHER CLASSES
1. Imparts a sensor bonus to ESCORT SHIPS and SHIPS OF THE LINE, used when calculating chance to hit.
2. Size of the bonus is the average sensors of the qualifying capitol ships, plus 0.25% per capitol ship after the first 10, up to 110 capitol ships.
3. To qualify for giving the bonus, the capitol ship must have a minimum of 75 sensors, and 3 weapon slots.
4. If the bonus amount is greater than the existing sensor value then the ships receiving the bonus have their sensors set to the bonus amount, with a maximum increase of 30% for SOTL and 20% for escort ships, over their existing sensor value.
5. If the bonus amount is between 50% and 100% of the existing sensor amount, then a fraction of the bonus is applied, depending on the number of contributing ships.
6. If the bonus amount is less than 50% of the existing sensor amount, then no bonus is applied.
